How much time is too much time spent on Facebook? An hour, 30 minutes 10 minutes? Well, this varies with people and the kind of job they do. For instance, the time spent on Facebook by a social media manager time or social media addict will be higher compared to other types of jobs which do not require them to be online. Amidst all that, we all want to be productive and we do not wish to see that we spend too much time on social media platforms doing nothing productive.

What Is the Average Time Spent on Facebook?

Are you that person who wakes up and check the phone, goes to bed while on the phone? With the push notifications of social media enabled, you will not miss checking one or two social media apps on your phone.

Generally, social media users spend an average of 2 hours and 22 minutes per day on social networking and messaging platforms.

If we narrow it down, Facebook reported to have 2.32 billion monthly active users with an average time spent on Facebook is 35 minutes per day according to Facebook 2018 results.

This data shows how much we log in to social media and socialize or get updated.

How to Find Your Time on Facebook

With the Facebook app installed on your phone, you can be able to check the time spent on Facebook app.  Thanks to “Your Time on Facebook” feature. In August 2018, Facebook announced the Your Time on Facebook tool alongside See First, Hide, Unfollow, and Keyword Snooze will enable users to manage their time on Facebook.

“We developed these tools based on collaboration and inspiration from leading mental health experts and organizations, academics, our own extensive research and feedback from our community. We want the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram to be intentional, positive and inspiring. Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time they spend on our platforms and also foster conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them.”

With that being said, let us now have a look at a step by step guide on how to find your time on Facebook. Note that the screenshots, shown below take that of Your Time on Facebook app on Android phone.

Take Away

Although Your Time on Now Facebook displays the time you have spent on Facebook app it has its downsides. First, the dashboard does not show how long you spend on each Facebook activity such as browsing News Feed, creating posts or comments, viewing Stories or viewing photos on profiles, messaging but just the entire time you spend on Facebook. If Facebook could break it down this way it would give users a much in-depth view of where they are spending or wasting more hours on and they could manage it better.

Moreover, the time captured does not include the time spent on Facebook on your desktop browser. Therefore, what you can do is use Social Media Tracker extensions on your desktop browser. Currently, I use Social Media / Web Time Tracker which is compatible with both Chrome and Firefox browsers.
