Hague: Court Rules in Favour of Somalia in Maritime Case with Kenya

  • Since 2014, Kenya and Somalia have contested over which direction their border extends into the Indian Ocean
  • In a ruling made on Tuesday, October 12, the International Court of Justice dismissed Kenya’s claim to a parallel latitude boundary with Somalia
  • As a result, the ICJ ruled that there is an agreed-on maritime border between the two countries, setting a new border that cuts through the disputed area
